A RainBox was installed in March 2015 to improve sugarcane growth. By 2016, treated soil showed root growth up to 1200 mm and better structure, while untreated soil reached 400 mm and was compacted. Treated sugarcane had longer, uniform internodes, while untreated plants showed shorter, uneven growth. Improved water retention is expected to boost future yields and reduce irrigation costs.

Observations and Results on Sugarcane
Summary
The study investigates the impact of irrigation water treatment on sugarcane growth in Mkuze, South Africa, revealing that treated lands show superior root development, healthier plants, and improved soil structure. These benefits enhance water retention and mitigate heat stress, indicating that effective water management and soil treatment can boost sugarcane production and lower irrigation costs.
